Our society is so incredibly realistic. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the recent recession, but I've had close friends disclose of their intent to go into finance lately. Many of which I have plenty of respect for, and chances are they will achieve success wherever they end up, but it doesn't keep me from thinking about their motivations and what our world has become.
The root of the problem is that everybody wants to live well. And finance seems like the safe exit for anybody whose willing to share a piece of their soul.
I say f it.
Maybe I'm just stubborn, maybe I have better things on my mind, but I'm willing to bet that hard-work and passion will pay off big in the long run. There are no substitutes for that.

Hong Kong apartment sells for $57M
It's a price tag that would make even New Yorkers and Londoners gasp — an outsized luxury apartment sold for nearly $57 million in Hong Kong Wednesday amid growing fears of a real estate bubble.
The five-bedroom duplex suite with as much as 6,158 square feet was sold to an unidentified buyer from mainland China, said the developer, Henderson Land Development, a major Hong Kong property company. It is believed to be Asia's most expensive property by square foot at nearly $9,200.

Android will make strides
In the race for a bigger piece of the market for smartphone operating systems, all the momentum seems to be with Google Android.
A Gartner report that leaked out this week predicts that Google Android will hold a 14.5 percent share of the mobile OS market (522 million unit sales) by the fourth quarter of 2012. That will put it second behind the Symbian system and its projected 39.0 percent share and ahead of Apple's iPhone OS, the current No. 2 mobile operating system.

Just finished my first piece of Python code.
Using ConceptNet and Analogyspace, I wrote a program that takes two sentences and evaluates the similarity between the two.

Vitality GlowCap
More to what I was talking about in my last entry...
Through school I have signed up to help product test for a local startup called Vitality (http://www.vitality.net). Their product 'Glowcaps' is an internet connected pill bottle that reminds patients to take their meds, informs registered family and medical personnel about adherence, and aids in refill coordination.

MIT
will change my life.
It's no wonder why the institution calls those who spend 10-30+ years at this institution "lifers". If I had another life I would consider it too, its a shame practicality stands in the way this time thru.
Some of the things I've heard and classes I'm taking on campus blow my mind -this is really where great minds meet. There are too many happenings/events to become involved with and way too little time for them. Every opportunity presents itself as a mini-world and as an incredibly rewarding adventure.
I may have passion and drive, but so do many many others out there. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be here.
